FuMi-1

a shigin conductor for the FM-1, inspired by the Suiko ST-50, in the browser: the same code the FM-1 runs

Turn your phone sideways for bigger controls.

Off. Sound starts when you switch it on.

Playing

  • White keys mi fa la ti do, three times, and a top mi: the ST-50's lower row. The tonics (keys 1, 6, 11, 16) are lit.
  • Black keys the upper row (fa# sol ti-flat do# re), or ornaments when SEQ is on (below).
  • SELECT 本数 (the key), PRESETS the instrument, ALGORITHM the scale (IN, YO, MIN'YO).
  • KNOB 1–4 the four values on the screen: HOME 余韻, trill rate, vibrato depth, reverb; FX the sound page; EDIT the bend page.
  • LFO vibrato, ARP trill (in pairs, ka-ta, the first stroke the hardest), GLO mono / poly, held: the Trill pages (feel, pair gap, ta level, oroshi; again: first stroke, jitter), SEL tap: 平均律 / 純正律, hold: the tuning page.
  • REC the looper: arm, the first key starts it; again: close, it plays; again: overdub. PLAY stop / start; held: undo. REC held: clear. ENV the Loop page.
  • OCT− / OCT+ with a note held: bend down / up (sprung); with none: octave.

Ornaments (SEQ on)

  • Black 1, 6 vibrato while held. Black 2, 7 trill while held; with oroshi set (GLO held) it starts slow and speeds up, and the header shows 颪. Black 3, 8 damp. Black 4, 9 strong pluck.
  • The koto's left hand: Black 5 押し手 oshide, the sounding notes a whole tone up while held. Black 10 引き色 hikiiro, each new note dips just after the pluck and comes back. Black 11 後押し atooshi, each new note pushed up a semitone a moment after it sounds.
  • Ornaments recorded in a loop act on the loop's notes; yours act on what your hands play.

The instruments

Koto 琴, Koto II 箏, Sho 笙, Shakuhachi 尺八, Dragon Flt 龍笛, Bamboo Flt 篠笛, Kokyu 胡弓 (the kokyū, bowed), Taiko 太鼓, Hyoshigi 拍子木, Mokugyo 木魚, Koto Pluck 爪音, Koto Ring 響, Koto Warm 名残, Harp 箜篌. Eight are community DX7 patches, six are FuMi's own; the order follows the ST-50's voice slider. Where each comes from, and what FuMi-1 takes from the ST-50 (the rows of keys, 本数, the measured 純正律, 余韻, トリラー, 自動伴奏), is on the About page.

Mouse and touch

  • Drag a knob up or down, or use the scroll wheel over it.
  • Click or touch buttons and keys. Drag across the white keys for a glissando. Several fingers at once work on a touch screen.
  • Combinations with a mouse: Shift-click (or right-click) a button to hold it down, click again to let go.

Keyboard

  • White keys 1–8: Q–I, 9–16: A–K. Black keys 1–11: 1–0, -.
  • Z / X OCT− / OCT+ (the bend with a note held), Shift LFO (vibrato), / ARP (trill), Esc HOME.
  • ↑ ↓ turn SELECT (本数).

Saving

SAVE keeps your setup in this browser, as the FM-1 keeps it in its memory. Factory reset forgets it. It is the firmware, not a recording: what you hear is FuMi-1 running, at the FM-1's 44.1 kHz. The browser emulator comes from FoMni; the idea from Groove OS.
